Pet care options in the Middle East

18 Mar 2026 | Icon Relo

For individuals and families wanting to leave the Middle East due to the current conflict, pets are an added layer of concern for many. With delays in relocating pets out of the Middle East, pet owners may be reluctant to leave them behind until transport can be arranged. Shelters and volunteer networks are overwhelmed with requests for pet care, which limits options. Pet boarding and pet sitting are alternative options for making sure your pets are looked after. Here’s what you need to know.

Pet boarding

Pet boarding is when pets are looked after away from the owner’s home. This may be at private boarding kennels or at a veterinary clinic. This option may be more suitable for those wanting round-the-clock care.

Costs will depend on:

  • Length of stay (usually a nightly rate)
  • Demand (currently high)
  • Pet type and/or size
  • Room size and/or amenities requested
  • Additional services provided (e.g. play time, medicines, etc.)

Typical costs for dogs: 100-250 AED per night

Typical costs for cats: 70-160 AED per night

In-home pet sitting

Pet sitting is when pets are looked after through a sitter either visiting or staying in the owner’s home. The benefit of this option is that the pet is in a familiar environment.

Costs will depend on:

  • Length of pet sitting (usually a daily rate)
  • Type of care (e.g. visits or live-in sitting)
  • Frequency of visits
  • Pet type
  • Services provided (e.g. walks, medicines, etc.)

Typical costs for dogs: 100 – 250 AED per day

Typical costs for cats: 70 – 150 AED per day
